While we are in this Fall enrollment season, it feels timely to share with you a few resources, as you too connect with many families in our area. First is a
wonderful and brief video from Mr. Steve Friess, which shares some poignant thoughts on the nuances of JHCA. Then, following below are a few questions I have received recently, specifically connected to this pandemic season we find ourselves in.
Q: What differentiates JH Classical Academy?
A: Our Academy curriculum teaches students how to think. The teachers embody this curriculum and mentor students in and outside of the classroom. And importantly, the students are encouraged to grow academically and personally in their own unique ways.
Q: What is missing in a virtual learning environment?
A: Virtual learning makes it challenging for teachers and students to build the relationships necessary for the education of both the heart and the mind. Further, virtual learning makes it difficult to cultivate community and enjoy the school performances, ceremonies, and conversations that enrich us all.
Q: What is the ultimate purpose of learning?
A: My response is two-fold: the purpose of learning is to cultivate wisdom and virtue, and to teach the time-tested knowledge and skills needed to navigate a complex world.
Q: How do you share "the model" when the school is closed?
A: We actively promote virtual materials that showcase the talents and accomplishments of our students. These come in the form of virtual term presentations and promotional clips from parents, students, and teachers. I encourage you to watch
this presentation from the 1st graders, for instance. Even in our current circumstances, our students have diligently stayed the course, and as a result, have much to share.
Ultimately, our families are the best advocates for spreading the good word about our school. We’re exceedingly grateful for all of the support from our Academy families. The best is yet to come!
