Head of School Update: Friday, March 3, 2017
There are lots of “Owl Happenings” this week! Teachers are completing thoughtful qualitative assessments of your children’s "Sense of Wonder & Depth of Inquiry" and "Habits & Responsibilities" to accompany the quantitative portion of the report cards. I am giving tours, meeting new families, and really enjoying sharing the vision of JHCA with so many new parents. Every time I enter a classroom I hear a new poem, witness a theatrical production or watch how students argue fallacies in preparation for the Term Presentation.
In addition, the Reading Rally is in full swing and there is healthy enthusiasm and competition among the students. In this first week, the students read 17,153 minutes and received $4,316 in pledges. The 6th Grade read the most minutes and the 5th Grade raised the most money! Holland Scott read the most and Grace Meadows raised the most. Please encourage your students to seek sponsors for their reading, and enjoy reading allow to your children over the weekend.
Make sure you plan to attend our annual Term Presentation next Friday, March 10 at 2:00 PM. The program is wonderful! This is my favorite event of the year, as I love to see every student in the school demonstrate something they have learned in every subject or discipline. Just a reminder to make appropriate arrangements for your students for our half-days of school on Thursday, March 16 and Friday, March 17 during Parent/Teacher conferences.
The Scout Guide, in conjunction with JHCA, is sponsoring a Salon Dinner this evening at the beautiful home of Elisa & Andy Chambers, owners of Snake River Interiors. Our 8th Grade literature and Latin teacher, Ben Walter, will present a poem by Wordsworth for discussion. Thank you Chambers family for offering yet another unique way to share the way we learn at JHCA with the greater Jackson Hole community!
