At the back of the room a parent’s hand raises, and with it, comes the question: “What is Classical Education?”
It’s a profound question, not easily unpacked with a brief, prepared soundbite. So, to best express to parents the essence of what makes our Academy a Classical one, we show them. Through an evening of live, interactive classes – which we call Discover Classical Learning – parents attend short classes that Academy teachers have taught to their students. Parents learn what makes our school distinct by interacting with the teachers and the curriculum firsthand. For a night, parents become Academy students. They not only learn of Classical Learning, they live it.
Discover Classical Learning has been an annual Academy event since our school’s inception. It is effective. It is a unique (and fun!) means of communicating the very character of our school. This academic year, Discover Classical Learning will take place on Thursday, January 16, 2020, from 6:00-8:00 PM. We look forward to seeing you there.
Discover Classical Learning is not the only one of its kind this year. Since Discover Classical Learning involves an evening commitment, we decided to offer similar, but smaller, events that take place during the school day. On Thursday, January 23, 2020, from 12:30-2:00 PM we will have a Kindergarten Open House, and the next day on Friday, January 24, 2020, from 1:00-2:15 PM, we will hold an event called Academy in an Hour. Both events allow parents to attend live classes and to ask Head of School, Mrs. Friess, any questions they might have about the Academy.
“What is Classical Education?” We invite you to join us to explore this question and more at any of our upcoming events.
