5th Grade Float Trip

Academy fifth-grade students recently were able to enjoy the beautiful fall weather rafting together. Students floated a little over 13 miles on the Snake River through the beneficence of the Snake River Fund’s Fifth Grade Float program. The program’s stated goal is to offer the opportunity for every fifth grader in the Valley to get out on the river with the help of local outfitters.

As the students prepared to decamp from school for the trip, the sun peaked through the clouds, making for a perfect afternoon on the river. Split between two rafts, operated by Jackson Hole Whitewater and Black Dog Rafting Co., the students received lessons on the riparian ecosystem and how it is affected by the levees—both the positives and the negatives. One boat boasted sighting over 30 eagles and smiles abounded around every twist and turn.
The field trip served as a wonderful opportunity for the fifth graders to spend time together in the beauty of our valley while strengthening their knowledge of the local environment. We could not thank the Snake River Fund enough for such a grand time!
