Head of School Update: Monday, June 3, 2019

Dear JH Classical Academy Parents,

End-of-year traditions abound as we head into the final two weeks of school. Baby chicks hatched in Mrs. Patrick’s classroom, and the Kindergarten students are visiting a working farm today. First Grade had their annual visit to the National Museum of Wildlife Art and Fish Hatchery last week, and the Fifth Grade is returning to Cosmic Apple Gardens in Idaho. Students who have Birthdays in July and August are receiving their Birthday Books on Thursday mornings. Eighth Graders will be challenged in the Escape Rooms next Thursday before their memorable Promotion Ceremony. Our final community event, Field Day, will culminate in JB Park’s delicious Korean BBQ and a time of thanks for those that have given extraordinary time, talent, and treasure to JH Classical Academy. I’m looking forward to these two weeks!
The Nifty 15 Gatherings are providing a unique opportunity for community fellowship and engagement in the future of our school. A different theme emerged at each gathering and great ideas flowed towards enhancing our school offerings, increasing our student body, and communicating our position in the greater community. Some of the ideas were already in motion, such as implementing a House System for Grades 7-11 that provides peer accountability, leadership training, healthy competition, and service opportunities for students. We will be bringing back our annual family square dance, and offering more community nights and student surprises. A sincere thanks to the Smerklo, Holland, and Greb families, so far, for opening their homes for these important conversations. You are building this school and its community. Your ideas matter.

Dirt is moving on our new campus site! John Johnson, who oversaw the on-time and on-budget project in 2014, is in town and lining up the workmen and permits for a repeat performance. Please keep the safety of our workmen in your prayers as they hustle to provide us more than double the space we now occupy by the end of August. We need to vacate our current building by June 30, and the faculty leave by June 20. If you are willing to help the faculty pack their classroom in order to prepare for the physical move, please contact your teacher directly. I know they would appreciate help on Monday and Tuesday, June 17 & 18.  If you are able to help pack the Library, Conference Room or other central spaces, please contact Dan Walker. Finally, if you have families interested in joining our Academy next year, please ask them come visit before Friday, June 14 since we won’t have a working campus until Tuesday, September 3.

We are delighted with the new faculty joining our team. Pray with me for God to provide the remaining hires we need to be fully staffed next year!
