Miss Anna Dewald

Miss Anna Dewald grew up in Colorado with a deep love for the mountains. She graduated from Rocky Mountain College in Billings Montana with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and an All-American title in volleyball.

Over the past two years, she has taught 4th grade at Windsor Charter Academy and 6th grade at Loy Elementary in Montana. She is looking forward to teaching 2nd grade at JH Classical Academy next year. She says, “I’m excited to be a part of the high level of academic achievement at this school. It’s a special thing—I haven’t seen it anywhere else.”
Miss Dewald has also coached high school volleyball, and sees great value in student athletics. “I love coaching because I’m passionate about sports myself,” she says. “Sports and physical education contain lessons that carry over to so many other aspects of life. When I see students grow in their capacity for good sportsmanship - when I see them being very competitive, yet treating not only their fellow teammates but also their opponents with respect - I feel I’ve had a positive impact on their character.”

Miss Dewald’s favorite aspect of teaching is helping students reach their full potential. She says, “I love working with students, building relationships with them and helping them make connections. There’s nothing like seeing a student’s joy when they achieve more than they thought they ever could. A teacher can really help students by lovingly pushing them to reach a just little further.”

Miss Dewald described a recent statistics project her current 6th grade
class in Montana particularly enjoyed. “The students found one area in our school that they thought needed improvement. They then ran a survey asking the student body for ways to improve that area. After analyzing their data, they came up with a thoughtful proposal and wrote a persuasive piece of writing to show how their research supported their problem solving.”

When not in school, Miss Dewald enjoys all the outdoor activities the West has to offer, including hiking, fishing, and camping. “Everything outdoors, really!” she says. In fact, Miss Dewald is no stranger to Jackson, as for the past three summers she has worked for Teton County Weed and Pest Control. “My work there is to exterminate non-indigenous and noxious weeds along the highway, river, farms and campgrounds. It involves a lot of hiking.”

Miss Dewald is looking forward to working at JH Classical Academy. She says, “The Academy is one of those places you walk in and instantly feel at home,” Miss Dewald says. “It was friendly and welcoming. I could feel the warm sense of community.” She also appreciates the academic environment. “The teachers and students all seem to respect each other so much. It’s a culture I find very attractive.”
