Showing Love By Being A Good Friend

Mrs. Ashton Quattlebaum, kindergarten teacher, addressed the lower school students and faculty at Tuesday’s opening ceremony to continue our discussion on the theological virtue of love. She spoke about what it means for friends to love one another.
Mrs. Quattlebaum began by asking the students what it means to be a good friend, or how someone could become a better friend. Responses from the students included, “always being kind,” “hanging out with one another,” and “being yourself.”

Mrs. Quattlebaum then used examples from the book Little Bear’s Friend to illustrate how we can show love to our friends when they are in need. She read an excerpt from the book where Little Bear helps his new friend, Emily, to find her way in the woods. This reminds us that we need to help our friends when they are lost. She also read an excerpt in which Little Bear fixes Emily’s doll, Lucy, when she breaks, telling us that we need to help our friends when they are broken, or upset. These are little ways that we can love our friends every day.
