In Their Own Words

“I’m learning to love to read,” Jacqueline began reflectively. “I’ve been reading
“Pride and Prejudice” for class but also more contemporary works such as “The Boys in the Boat,” “The Sun and Her Flowers,” – which is a collection of poetry – and “The Alchemist.”
Jacqueline connects her readings to her current circumstances, and further, to her 11th grade experience at JHCA. “Junior year has been a challenge. But I’ve learned that with hard work and thoughtful, timely planning, there’s more peace – less stress – in my studies. That’s why "The Alchemist" has resonated with me. It’s taught me to be patient, and most of all, to do things the right way – not the easy way.”

With more time and space to ruminate and read, Jacqueline says, “I think, too, I’ve become more self-aware, more attuned to my needs and interests. I’ve come to understand myself better.”

Jacqueline looks forward to expressing herself in her upcoming college applications, which she plans to commence this spring. “I have a unique story, and I’m excited to share it.”

A big part of her story is golf, a sport in which she has excelled. “It’s been hard to practice in the house when it’s so beautiful outside,” Jacqueline said with a smile. Then, revealing the resolve and patience she had alluded to moments ago, she continued: “Golf is easy enough to play at six-feet’s distance, so I’m reserving hope for the summer. I’m registered for the WHSGA world qualifier. I’m going to give my best to qualify and represent Wyoming.”
