Head of School Update: Friday, August 9, 2019

Dear JH Classical Academy Parents,

I hope your children are having a great summer adventuring, reading, and enjoying time with family and friends. We returned from two wonderful weeks in the Swiss and French Alps, taking full advantage of the Jungfrau and Mont Blanc passes.  We hiked the trails, visited the glaciers and ice caves, and summited the peaks via trains, gondolas, and trams. The beauty of those views and healthy exercise nourished my soul.  Time away with my family restored my vision and provided time for new learning and inspiration.  I am am so grateful. I hope the same for each of you...
Bouma Construction is making solid progress on our new campus. The Lower School and Upper School modular units are placed and connected.  As you may have seen in the newspaper yesterday, we finally received utilities connection from the Town of Jackson and are working hard to get the water and sewer installed, connected, and inspected, in time for school to open. My tour through the modular buildings this week revealed spacious classrooms with plenty of light. As you can see from these drone photos, we are blessed with spectacular views from every vantage point on this 80-acre campus. I’m still in awe of God’s provision for JHCA -- SF49, Lynn & Foster's financial gifts, the land purchase, the Bouma/Bergman team, utility connections, and much more.

Official preparations for the 2019-2020 school year have begun. Teachers are returning from training in their fields or from time away visiting their families. All 9 of our new faculty and staff will have arrived in Jackson Hole by the end of the week.  Training in curriculum, procedures, and what makes JH Classical Academy so unique begins next week. A total of 25 new students have joined our Academy and more enrollments are pending. Please plan on coming to our Campus Blessing and Open Doors on Monday, September 2 from 4:30-6:30 PM.  It will be an important time to thank God for His provision over our school and to seek His continued blessing on our work.  Additionally, students will see their new classrooms, meet their new teachers, and get acquainted with new friends.

For planning purposes, the final version of our Academy's Annual Calendar can be accessed below or on our resource page through your OwlNet Account.  Please contact Betsy Davis for questions with Owlnet.  Separate communication will follow tomorrow on uniform guidelines and how to order uniforms through Lands End. Manjola Koci for questions on uniforms.  Our after-school club offerings will be shared next week, so you can prepare your childrens' after-school schedules. Sam Lunz for questions on clubs. Since we will not have the Field House for several months, and therefore no kitchen yet, we are working on a bag lunch delivery option, and information will follow next week. Deb Bentlage for questions on our bag lunch program.  If you have questions regarding tuition billing, please contact Dena Mertz.  Finally, if you are able to help with Old Bill's this year, please contact Elizabeth Birnie.  She needs help with our booth on Saturday, September 7th.

I hope you find time in the bustle of summer activities to rest.  We may need to call for help moving and settling the final week before school begins, from August 26-30. The more help we get, the more time-off the faculty can have over Labor Day Weekend!  Dan Walker will coordinate volunteers when we get closer to the date.  Please pray that we remain on-schedule and in-budget for the completion of our new campus, and Praise God for His mercy and grace upon Jackson Hole Classical Academy, too.  Feel free to contact me with any ideas, questions, joys or concerns.   I love hearing from you!

Exciting days are ahead,
