Head of School Update: Friday, June 14, 2019

Dear JH Classical Academy Parents,

In The Screwtape Letters, C.S. Lewis wrote, “Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point, which means the point of highest reality.” The challenges this year presented, of seeking approval for our new campus and securing an interim place to operate, provided all of us this testing point.

In the first stanza of Rudyard Kipling’s poem, If, he advises his son:

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise…

Our struggle has been to stand firm on biblical principles amidst the opposition; to remain calm amidst false rhetoric; to proceed wisely amidst foolishness. I thank the faculty, parents, and students for holding their tongues and protecting their hearts during the trials of this year. Your dedication to truth, beauty, and goodness shined through and witnessed to the culture we desire to create at JH Classical Academy.

We rejoice! God has a way of orchestrating situations for our refinement and for His glory alone. “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking in anything.” James 1:2-4.

What a privilege it to persevere in our service to God through our work at Jackson Hole Classical Academy and grow as a community. Our future is bright.

“Courage, dear hearts!”
