JH Classical Academy Hosts Open House to Accept Community Input

Jackson Hole Classical Academy hosted a Community Open House on Thursday, May 16. JH Classical Faculty and staff presented a selection of preliminary drawings of the campus and area surrounding and sought input from gathered families, neighbors, and local elected officials.

Along with JH Classical personnel, representatives from Bouma and Bergmann, the construction and design firms, joined to field questions about the building and plans. Andrew Renner and Jeff Ledy contributed decades of experience working on hundreds of school projects to the conversation and were able to address a wide variety of ideas and concerns. The two fielded questions during the event on both the temporary and permanent campus.
This summer, Bouma and Bergmann will establish a modular campus for the use of the upcoming several school years. This temporary campus will total about 18,000 square feet of teaching space as well as 11,000 square feet of gym space on the future site on South Park Loop Road. The campus design will allow connectivity between the units to avoid outside travel during inclement weather, and to allow the uninterrupted continuation of learning and curriculum for the 2019/2020 school year. JH Classical intends to begin the 2019/2020 school year on September 3 in these units.

As the plans for the modular campus are more complete, JH classical along with Bouma and Bergmann are in the process of completing designs for the permanent campus on South Park Loop. The final campus will be able to support 280 students and 40 faculty members, but it will maintain the goal of a low-lying, visually appealing construction that will be in keeping with the community character of Jackson Hole. Designers are striving to consolidate buildings and spaces to limit the number of structures and the impact of the footprint on the area.

Some elements depend entirely on the standards and strictures of the community, so designers are working alongside public works to designate the County Road. Both JH Classical and Public Works are aiming to be as safe and unobtrusive as possible, and an aim of the Open House was to solicit community feedback from neighbors and commuters as to the best solutions. All feedback from the Open House will be passed on to the county as conversations continue as to the best solution.

JH Classical is excited for the growth it is experiencing and the support of the community, and further updates will be posted on the school website.
