6th Grade American History State Project

Delicious smells of peach cobbler and shrimp ceviche wafted out of the 6thgrade classroom as the history fair got underway. On May 3rd, parents and students from other classes heard about the culture, history, geology, and wildlife of selected states of the Union from the 6th grade American history class.
According to Miss Porter’s assignment, the students each had an essay, a poster, a hand-drawn map, and a flag. They also built dioramas of state landmarks. Armed with these, the 6th graders propounded facts and demonstrated topography with expertise and verve.

Some of the students chose to present on a state with some personal significance. 6th grade student Paschall McDaniel said, “I enjoyed researching Georgia. I’ve wanted to learn more about the state because both my parents are from there.”
