Head of School Update: Tuesday, August 27, 2019

Dear JH Classical Academy Parents,

I hope you marked your calendars for our Campus Dedication on Monday, September 2nd. We have a lot to celebrate! It is a miracle that we are able to start school on Tuesday. I use the word miracle as defined: “a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural law and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency.” Despite tremendous twists and turns (Bouma might use the word obstacles!), God has shepherded us through this 3-month construction project and we must give Him praise!
It was only 14 days ago that we received the final connection agreement from the Town of Jackson for water and sewer. Permanent water is being connected today and 3-days of testing commence tomorrow. We do not yet have the hydrant flows required for fire suppressant, so you will see a 10,000 gallon tanker on the property as a temporary solution for a few months. Temporary sewer is permitted and nearly complete. When the right meter arrives, we will move over to our permanent sewer solution. Permanent power is turned on and working.

The Fire Marshal made her initial review and we received temporary occupancy to start moving furniture into the modular buildings today. If you would like to come help the faculty settle their classrooms, they could use the help.  Here is a Sign-up Genius Moving Help for you to volunteer to help on Thursday and Friday, and more if we need it! Since we are officially still a construction site, be prepared to wear long pants (no shorts), closed-toe shoes (no sandals), do not bring children, and use the gravel Ranch Road to enter due to the asphalt being poured on the new road.

It will be 3-4 weeks until we get the sod field, but Coach Lunz is being creative with physical education and recess, which will be held in our parking lot. If you have any extra equipment to temporarily donate to the school for outdoor fun, please contact Coach Lunz. We ordered 14 round picnic tables so that lunch can be enjoyed outside as much as possible and moved to the lawn when the sod is laid. It will be 3-4 months until our Field House, with full kitchen, is complete. So, please be patient with us during this time of transition. It would be so helpful if families could register for our sack-lunch program as soon as possible.

I will share some exciting improvements to our curriculum, schedule, program, and school culture in my next Head of School update. However, for scheduling purposes, you should know that Morning Assembly for Grades K-6 is on Tuesday from 11:40-12:00 noon before lunch, and Morning Assembly for Grades 7-11 is on Thursday from 8:10-8:30 AM. Parents are always welcome to join Morning Assembly and Lunch. Students may be dropped off as early as 8:00 AM every morning and head directly to their classrooms for attendance by 8:10 AM. School ends at 3:20 PM, but Lyceum is offered on Monday, Tuesday & Thursday until 3:50 PM.

Please enjoy reading about three of our new faculty!
