Tiered Tuition

Affording JHCA

Tiered Tuition allows for a reduction of the annual tuition based on a family’s unique financial profile and supports the Academy’s goal to provide access and affordability for students from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds.

Every family is expected to contribute to the cost of tuition at the level that their financial profile permits. All families applying for tiered tuition should complete a confidential application through our third-party
service provider School & Student Services (SSS).

SSS will determine each family’s tuition tier, and those results will be communicated alongside admissions decisions.
For the 2021-22 academic year, full tuition is $24,000, and the tiers will range from $20,000 down to $3,000.

JHCA offers the two payment plans for the School Year ending June 2022:

  • Does JHCA have fees for field trips or activities?

Yes, the Activities Fees cover the cost of field trips and vary depending on the grade:

    Grades K–6: $250 per year
    Grades 7&8: $750 per year
    Grades 9–12: $1500 per year
  • How do non-working parents affect the Tiered Tuition formula?

Recognizing that a family bears the primary responsibility for financing their children’s education costs, the SSS will add a $15,000 part-time salary for a non-working parent when there are no pre-school age children or others to care for in the home, and/or no medical or disability issues that prevent the parent from seeking employment.
  • What is JHCA’s policy regarding multiple children in tuition-charging schools?

When determining a family’s ability to pay, SSS takes into consideration the total number of children in tuition-charging schools, including other undergraduate colleges and private school programs. The ability to cover JHCA’s tuition is based on the family’s total educational costs.
  • Will my child continue to receive the same tuition from year-to-year?

Families applying for tiered tuition must complete the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) with SSS. Tiered tuition rates are reassessed each year and based on the family’s most current financial profile.
  • Will JHCA maintain a rigorous academic placement process?

Our Academy is committed to high academic standards for potential students and assesses every family’s commitment to JHCA’s mission and vision.

JHCA's Tiered Tuition Guiding Principals

Recognizing that each family bears the primary responsibility for financing a child’s education costs, these Guiding Principles for Families are designed to serve as guideposts for families’ responsibilities as partners in the tiered tuition process:

  1. The family seeks reduced tuition options only after they have determined their own resources are insufficient to cover the cost of attending JHCA and have exhausted the potential resources and options available to them.
  2. The family is open and honest when completing the tiered tuition application and when providing any supporting documentation.
  3. The family adheres to school deadlines and documentation submission requirements.
  4. The family submits true and accurate tax-related documentation, such as the 1040, when required by the school.
  5. The family is responsive to requests from SSS for additional information to support the application.
  6. The family is requested not to disclose its tiered tuition outcome to respect privacy for all in a small community.
